Chris Lofton made 17 three-pointers and scored a career-high 61 points to lead Mersin BSB. to a 116-70 win over CASA TED Kolejliler today in the Turkish Basketball League. Lofton was 17-of-22 on three-point shots, 4-of-6 on two-point shots and 2-of-2 from the free throw line. He had three rebounds and four assists. Today's 61-point performance increased Lofton's scoring average by almost two points to 20.08 points per game- fourth best in the league. He has scored 502 points this season. Mersin BSB. has two games left in the regular season. Lofton's previous career-high as a professional was 47 points against Fenerbahce Ulker on Feb. 8.

His teammates at Mersin include former Grizzlies player Kimani Ffriend, but the most interesting connection is:

Instead of declaring for the 2007 NBA Draft, Lofton announced that he would return to Knoxville for his senior season. Lofton was featured on the cover of the November 21, 2007 Sports Illustrated[5] issue, holding a basketball away from Chris Douglas-Roberts of the University of Memphis. Sports Illustrated picked Tennessee 3rd in the country and Lofton as a 1st Team All-American.

I remember him being a terrific shooter. While he was a one-trick pony and was pretty small, I'm surprised no one took a 2nd rounder on him.

Chris Lofton also beat cancer his senior year, which led to a down year and never told anyone about it.
